Best Brunch in the Grand Strand

Wow – it’s been a minute! Lots of life changes and I recently had another back surgery so I’m trying to catch up on all my Carolina Adventures!!

Let’s talk about Brunch!

Johnny D’s is always tried and true!! With 3 locations in the Grand Strand now, you can finally try that red velvet waffle they are so famous for! We visited the Surfside location this time! I did try something new – biscuits and gravy with a side of eggs and home fries. The gravy wasn’t the best but was good! You definitely can’t go wrong with their home fries though with a touch of onions cooked in. I think I will stick to my waffles though. Their chicken and waffles is really good.

Sea Captain’s House is such a tourist and local favorite. It’s ocean front with amazing views. They have a wonderful breakfast buffet. It has changed a bit since Covid but still has all you would love for a perfect breakfast. You can get an omelet made to your liking, sweets, waffles, and juice/coffee/milk. They also have a great shrimp and grits!! I met my friend Tessa there to celebrate her birthday! They serve dinner as well – but definitely prefer their breakfast.

Murrell’s Inlet is the go-to place for good local eats on the Marshwalk. BUT some places serve breakfast/brunch! Me and Mom visited Dead Dog Saloon. They have ample seating inside, under the awning, or outside. We chose outside since it was such a nice day! Prices were super reasonable. They had all the normal breakfast offerings plus the Lobster Home Fries which is what I got!! So good – I felt like I was in Maine again! We took a stroll on the Marshwalk to take in the surroundings especially the Goats. Definitely a go-to place for a great brunch!

Crossiants Bistro & Bakery was a really good place to go for brunch! I met up with some friends and we were not disappointed. We went to the location on 38th ave but they also have another location on 17 beside Hook & Barrel. We got some drinks – Peach Bellini was good and I waited till 10 (SC crazy liquor laws) to get Peach Sangria which was amazing! Our waitress brought us out some warm mini chocolate chip muffins – omg yum!! I ordered the Bananas foster, one friend got the chocolate chip pancakes, and the other friend got the crossiants Benedict. We had wonderful conversation and such a good breakfast.

I saved the best for last – it’s a fairly new place in the Grand Strand: Drift. I have actually went there several times in the last few months. The first time me and mom checked it out, I got the French toast and Mom got a made to order omelette. One con – you pay for the syrup and all the toppings separately! I met up with a friend the second time and tried the Mermaid Mimosa – a cool colored drink and quite tasty! And then this last time was the best (minus the 1.5 hour wait)!! I got the shrimp omelette – WOW!! I wasn’t sure about the shrimp and egg combo but so good! It comes with a side of garlic aioli and it’s wonderful. The side of potatoes is also where it’s at!! Yum! My friend got lunch – ham and cheese baguette. This is the place to go, take work lunch, drinks with friends, bring your guests!!

Some honorable mentions: The Blueberry Grill and Tupelo Honey.

Places on my list to try: 10 Fold Biscuits and Omega Pancake House.

I definitely will do better about keeping up with my blog posts. Coming soon – Wilmington details!!

Edit: Went to the Blueberry Grill at Barefoot Landing!! Very busy but we got there about 930 before the rush! I had the Cinnamon Roll French toast and mom got the omelet made to order. It was delicious but wasn’t very filling!! The menu definitely had many choices!!
